Fibre to the Cabinet — Widely Available, Business-Grade Superfast Broadband
Business FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) is the most widely available form of fibre broadband in the UK, covering the vast majority of business premises across both urban and rural areas. FTTC works by running a fibre-optic cable from the telephone exchange to a green street cabinet near your premises, with the final connection from the cabinet to your building delivered over the existing copper telephone infrastructure.
This hybrid fibre-copper architecture allows FTTC to deliver download speeds of up to 80Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20Mbps — a substantial improvement over standard ADSL broadband. However, it is worth noting that your actual speed will be influenced by the physical distance between your premises and the nearest street cabinet; the further away you are, the greater the signal degradation over the copper final mile.
While FTTC does not offer the pure-fibre performance of FTTP, it remains an excellent and cost-effective solution for many businesses, particularly when taken on a business-grade contract that includes the SLAs, static IPs, and dedicated support that residential services simply cannot offer.

From FTTC to FTTP or Leased Line — Knowing When to Switch
Business FTTC is a capable solution, but there are clear signs that your organisation may have outgrown it. If you are experiencing any of the following, it may be time to explore upgrading to Business FTTP or a Leased Line.
Peak-time slowdowns: If your broadband performance noticeably drops during busy periods — particularly mid-morning and early afternoon — this is a symptom of network congestion on the shared broadband infrastructure. A leased line, with its uncontended dedicated bandwidth, will eliminate this entirely.
VoIP call quality issues: Jitter, echo, and dropped calls on your IP phone system are often caused by inconsistent broadband performance. FTTP or a leased line delivers the stable, low-latency connection that VoIP requires.
